Social Influence: The New Darling of SEO
With search engine analytics’ ability in evaluating a website for search rank becoming “smarter,” social influence has become a part of how companies are being evaluated for page rank. Because of this development, social media success has gained significantly in importance for businesses wanting to improve search engine optimization (SEO). For that reason, business owners who want to continue to be successful with rank need more than ever to have a solid social media presence.
Here is an excerpt from Bing’s current Web Master Guidelines related to Social:
“Social media plays a role in today’s effort to rank well in search results. The most obvious part it plays is via influence. If you are influential socially, this leads to your followers sharing your information widely, which in turn results in Bing seeing these positive signals. These positive signals can have an impact on how you rank organically in the long run.”
What this means for businesses: links and PPC work alone won’t get the SEO job done anymore. And, by creating a comprehensive digital media strategy that incorporates social media will impact their search rank. It will also lead to greater conversions through social media channels, and help build a stronger brand to name just two other benefits.
In addition to social influence, organic SEO work can be accomplished through original content on the site being added regularly with the proper keywords (blog posts). These two organic SEO strategies will lead to greater rank and, in turn, increased revenue for the business.
