Mount Fuji Now Has WiFi

As the annual climbing season kicks off (July to September), Mt. Fuji will now have internet connection so that people stay connected as they ascend and descend the mountain. While some might be put off by this, considering the Japanese government as placating an overly-connected society, they are actually providing it to further promote tourism and increase safety.

The government believes if people can share their experience in real time, create selfies at the top, and tweet to the world, it will only lead to more people interested in visiting their country and tackling the mountain climb.

From a safety perspective, it’s also being provided so climbers can track weather updates and call if in danger.

Now, the real question is: Will they allow selfie sticks???
